Uptime/Downtime

I have been rather silent lately, haven't I? I've had a busy end to my summer, and a busy start to my school year, but that's not the only issue.

If you don't check my site by subscribing to the RSS feed, but instead click on it every day to see if there's something new, you would have noticed something new: my blog is often offline, and gives a "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable" error.

I have dealt with this before! To oversimplify the blog, it runs just like any program on your computer. However, instead of taking input from your keyboard/mouse, it takes input from the web, and returns the text that renders into the nice webpage you see.

Now, just like any program, it can have bugs, and it can crash. When it crashes, it simply shuts down until something/someone starts it back up. I have had problems before with my text encodings, bad storage, etc. and I have a neat way to see the error that happens when the blog crashes, in order to track the problem down.

However, with the recent downtime of the blog, there has been a different problem: no error gets logged, and I can't find any pattern as to why it shuts down. The symptoms? Every 6-18 hours, the blog process simply stops. And I have no idea what causes it...

Here's to hoping I manage to fix it soon and don't lose all my readers in the process of doing so.
