Abstruse Goose on Intellectual Property
I have one small thing to share today: a webcomic part of the Abstruse Goose series.

I happen to agree with Mr. Goose here. Some people have asked me why I have not addressed the topic of intellectual property or DRM more thoroughly in an "open source blog".
Truth be told, I don't have much to say about it. Yes, creators of digital media (songs, videos, software, etc.) deserve compensation for their work. After all, they are the ones who found that special "sequence of bits" that pleases our eyes, ears, or whatever other part of yourself you use it to please.
However, for the author to claim rights to how and when you can use this media after you buy a copy of it from him fair and square is wrong. For digital media copying to be treated the same way reverse engineering of technologies is treated is wrong. And, in general, for digital to be treated the same way its analog counterpart is (e.g. e-mail vs snail mail), and to be held to the same laws and rules, is wrong.
Personally, I see this as a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions, particularly due to an older, less technologically-attuned generation writing regulations and laws based on misinformation. I hope that with time, understanding of technology will grow and the Internet and digital world in general will flourish under appropriate, common sense regulation, not laws based on policies originally set down before "Internet" was a word.
Do it for the kittehs!
I see you got talent in writing posts. Waiting for more informations
